Liposuction
Liposuction (Lipoplasty/Suction Lipectomy)
One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms that have not responded to diet and exercise. If a patient continues a healthy diet and exercise regimen, results from Liposuction are permanent. Excessive weight gain following the procedure can cause these excess fatty deposits to return. Anyone considering liposuction should be at a healthy and maintainable weight for best results.
Liposuction begins with an anesthetic being applied to the problem areas. General or local anesthesia can be used for the procedure depending on the amount of correction needed. Small incisions are then made in very specific areas to allow access to the unwanted fat deposits. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Giuffrida will use a small tube (cannula) to loosen any stubborn pockets of fat, and suction them through a small vacuum. The cannula is inserted into the small incisions and artfully moved back and forth to create a natural contour. This procedure is a very delicate procedure, requiring artistic sculpting ability to create a firm and natural contour.
There are several different methods surgeons use when performing liposuction, including tumescent liposuction, the super-wet technique, and ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL). During an initial consultation, Dr. Giuffrida will discuss the options for this procedure and decide which procedure will best meet your desired outcome and expectations for the procedure.
Results from a liposuction procedure will be visible once swelling and bruising subside, and compression bandages are removed. Compression bandages will help speed up the recovery process as well as assist in delivering the best results. With continued exercise and proper diet, the results from liposuction are permanent, but fat deposits can return if a patient gains an excessive amount of weight following the procedure. Schedule your consultation today to determine if liposuction is the right procedure to correct any stubborn excess pockets of fatty tissue.
